Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Ingredients 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour ¼ teaspoon salt ½ cup butter, diced and then chilled ¼ cup ice cold water, or as needed

Directions Compile every component. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt together. Using a pastry blender, blend in cold, chopped butter until the mixture has the consistency of coarse crumbs.  

You may need less than 1/4 cup of water. Add 1 tablespoon of cold water at a time and stir with a spatula or your hands until the dough comes together.  

Roll the dough into a disk, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for four or more hours or overnight.  

Roll out the chilled dough onto a heavily floured surface, using more flour on your rolling pin as necessary, to form an 11-inch circle.  

Roll out the dough onto the rolling pin with caution, then place it over a 9-inch pie dish. Evenly press the dough into the dish's sides and bottom. Trim and flute the edges of any excess dough.  

Follow the directions in your pie recipe to fill and bake or blind-bake.
